SLRCFA Club Meeting - November

  • 16 Nov 2017
  • 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • 433 Breezewood Drive Ballwin, MO 63011

Open House / Fiberglassing & Composites Demonstration

The November meeting will be an Open-House / Fiberglassing demonstration at Paul Appelbaum's home. Paul is the scratch-builder of the famous C-17 jet.

This should be something you can really sink your teeth into: Paul worked building composite experimental aircraft for many years, including a stint with Burt Rutan. We covet his skills, and now a few of them can get transferred to us...

  • Everyone is welcome starting at 6:00 pm
  • The open house from 6:00-7-00 will include C17 tooling, parts exhibits and AvantiA progress
  • Club meeting will start at 7:00 and demos will start around 7:15

Agenda:

  • Fun milling around one of the best equipped shops in the club. You might even get to see the C-17 sleeping.
  • Safety 10 - ten minutes from John DeLuca, Safety Officer
  • Paul will provide beverages, snacks and chairs; the demo will start at 7:15pm.
The demo will consist of:
- epoxy additives (micro balloons, cabosil, and cotton flock)
- using correct fiber orientation
- applying epoxy resin to fiberglass in between plastic to control resin content
- bulkhead reinforcements
- how to laminate a 90 degree outside corner without bridging
- forming a custom fiberglass mounting cradle around a fuel tank
- 3/4 ounce fiberglass techniques
Location:
433 Breezewood Drive
Ballwin, MO 63011
Thanks or being part of the best RC club in the Midwest!

P.S. the rotator image on our home page is one of Paul's scratch-built jets...
